Obsolete GE/Kenmore Transformer Replacement WB20K5008 WB20K5063 WB20X10005

Is your GE/Kenmore built-in oven is lifeless?? just plain dead??? This commonly happens after a lightning strike, power surge or some other event that you may have not even noticed.  You will quickly realize nobody sells this part.  Somebody may recommend that you have to buy a new oven.  Wait!! Dont Fret!.  ApplianceBoardRepair has a solution and sometimes even a replacement. WB20X10005 (AP2622448) replaces 346487, WB20K5008, WB20X5063, WB20X5065, WB20X5066.

 

They way these tend to fail is by being completely broken (not marginal, just plain 0V).  This means it is to figure out if this is your problem.  Get an AC meter and check the following voltages.  Remember as always, the high voltage (primary side is 120V and can kill you!).  If you have never measured common 120V out of an outlet or other high voltages, please call a professional.

Primary 120V – if not, this means there is a wiring problem to the oven that must be repaired first.

Secondary (blue pair) – 5V or higher is good.  If zero, and the primary voltage was there, this transformer needs to be replaced.  Contact ApplianceBoardRepair

Secondary (Yellow pair) – 5V or higher is good.  If zero, and the primary voltage was there, this transformer needs to be replaced.  Contact ApplianceBoardRepair

***You Do Not Have to Scrap Your Oven Just Because the Low Voltage Transformer is Obsolete

We get calls from owners of expensive ovens in search of a transformer equivalent to replace a failed, no-longer-available low voltage oven transformer. These transformers sometimes fail due to a power surge, a lightning storm induced transient, self clean cycle or an over temperature condition.

The problem is that there are typically multiple output voltage windings on these devices which makes it difficult to cross to an off-the-shelf part. Nobody wants to scrap out an entire oven just because the low voltage transformer has failed and supply of a new replacement has been discontinued by the manufacturer.

In response to this need, we have developed a method to test and, when possible, repair these devices. In most cases we have found that the transformer can be reliably and safely repaired.

If your oven transformer has failed consider sending it to us at a repair facilty for repair. Don’t scrap your oven without considering this cost effective, environmentally responsible alternative!
