Whirlpool and KitchenAid Oven Control Board Part Numbers Reference Chart

Several different part numbers are often used to describe the same electronic control board

It’s not uncommon for different part numbers to refer to the same board.  Manufacturers tend to revise parts and will usually assign a new number to the revision, even though it is essentially the same as the original.

To add to that, third party resellers and part houses have their own set of unique part numbers generated in-house for their inventory that get assigned to the OEM parts.

This means several entities have come up with many different numbers to describe one thing.

At ApplianceBoardRepair.com we want to eliminate any confusion when it’s time to get your board serviced.

So, here is a table of control board part numbers for common Whirlpool and Kitchen Aid ovens.

Common Dacor Oven Control Board Part Numbers and Alternate Part Numbers

Electronic Control Boards can have multiple part numbers!

Manufacturers revise parts frequently to compensate for latent design flaws.  Generally, each revision of a part gets a new part number, despite the fact that the revision is functionally equivalent to the original part number.

Part houses and re-sellers tend to generate their own part numbers and assign those to OEM parts they distribute to assist their own inventory tracking.

This is how several different part numbers come to reflect the same board.

ApplianceBoardRepair.com does not want you to be confused by this when you need to get your board serviced.

Here is a reference table for common Dacor control board part numbers.

F2 Code Due to Harness Swap on GE Double Wall Oven – Model Series JKP , JTP, ZEK

This is a very specific post regarding an error code that can occur if you have been fiddling around with the connections and all of a sudden you are getting F2 error codes. If you or someone else has not, you can ignore this post.

Typical GE double oven controller image from

The F2 error code for the above GE/Kenmore controllers means that the oven cavity is about 600 to 700 degrees Fahrenheit when the oven is in normal baking mode.  This is a safety mechanism so that the controller shuts off the heating elements before the oven over heats and becomes a fire hazard.  If this code happens after you get a new board or a rebuilt board from ApplianceBoardRepair it is highly unlikely that the problem is real.

What can happen is that wire harness’s to the J3 and J4 connector get swapped during re-installation.  If this happens, when you turn on the upper oven, it will begin to heat the oven cavity, but the controller is trying to regulate the temperature using the sensor from the lower oven and it thinks that the oven is cool when in fact, it has the heating elements on and the upper oven is getting hot!  As the temperature rises above the safety temperature, the controller warns of F2 on the lower oven because the upper oven  thermistor(temp sensor) was plugged into the lower oven connector.  Confusing!! yeah, I know, but the fix is simple.  Swap the harness between the J3 and J4 connectors and the oven will run like a champ.  And as always, if you need help deciphering this blog or any other appliance related question, contact us at ApplianceBoardRepair

The Lexicon of Oven Electronics: Control Board, Relay Board, and Touchpad

Well versed in the language

The vast majority of home ovens these days are controlled by electronics.  Generally, a system of various electronic components are employed in unison to get the job done.

Lets take a look at the heavy hitters in these systems.

Electronic Control Board

aka: Electronic range controller (erc), electronic oven controller (eoc), Clock, Timer, controller, control module, control assembly, printed circuit board (pcb), Printed circuit Card (PC Card)

This is the kingpin.  Aptly named, the electronic control board controls the whole system.  Almost all of them take input from the keypad and have a display with the clock, temperature, etc.  Most of the time, they also directly sense temperature and control the heating elements and other apparati.

Control Boards have a pretty high failure rate.  If you need to get yours serviced, find your part on our site to get started, or send us an inquiry if it’s not listed.

Sometimes, control systems split the task between a few different boards.  When there is a board that appears to have little more than the clock, it can be referred to as Display Board, Display Head, or Control Head.

Relay Board

aka: Power Relay Board (PRB), Appliance manager

This board generally handles the oven apparati (elements, door locks, etc.) in the instances where the control system is split between different boards.

They are most readily identifiable by their bulky, boxy, typically black components called relays.  Relays are electronically controlled switches.  In this application, they are switching high voltage power onto the heating elements, or energizing lock motors, or passing electricity to the cavity lights, etc.  Relays are awesome.

Sometimes, the relay board and the main control board are assembled together in a module, but they are frequently separate as well.  Even when they are separated, the boards still work with each other, and thus are connected to each other by a bunch of wires and wiring harnesses.

If you’re experiencing oven control failures, be sure to send both boards in for repair.

Touchpad

aka: keypad, touch panel, panel assembly, membrane switch, membrane panel, control panel, membrane assembly

This is merely a keyboard.  It’s where all the buttons are that you press to make the oven do things.  The control board is constantly sensing state of the buttons on the touchpad and will kick into gear when a button is pressed.

The touchpad almost always connects to the control board via ribbon tape conductors.  These cables are wonderfully flexible, lending themselves to component swapping.  However, they are also extremely fragile and irreparable when damaged – handle with care.

In general, touchpads cannot be repaired when they fail – replacement is the only option.  Unfortunately, this gets extremely complicated by the fact that many touchpads are obsolete.  Occasionally, you can find original touchpads available on sites like eBay, but these are very risky to purchase.  They are probably used and already broken.

Luckily, we have developed some great tech that gets around this problem and saves you form scrapping your entire appliance in the event of touchpad failure.  ApplianceBoardRepair and BoardFruit, Inc. have partnered together, exclusively offering the BoardFruit LinkBox to get you out of these dilemmas.

That wraps up the language lesson for today! Don’t hesitate to ask questions or send an inquiry if you’d like to know more.

Whirlpool, KitchenAid Electric Ovens: E1 F2/E2 F2 Error Code, bad keypad – all is not lost!

!!!! NEW !!!

Want to test your oven with a temporary keypad replacement?  Order here:

Oven not responding to buttons? E1 F2 / E2 F2 error code? Random Beeping?

These symptoms almost certainly indicate a failed Whirlpool/KitchenAid keypad, which are frequently no longer available, or prohibitively expensive.  There is a small chance that the ribbon cable connecting the keypad to the control board has come loose, or that the control board itself has failed.

To inspect the ribbon cable, you simply just need to get eyes on the backside of the control panel. If you need instructions on how to access the control cabinet, refer to this post.

Always cut power to the oven at the breaker before performing any maintenance.

The ribbon cable looks like a piece of tape that is protruding from the backside of the panel and inserts into a connector on the electronic control board.  If it’s snugly inserted, then that’s not the problem.

So is it the control board or the keypad on the control panel that has failed?

This is a pretty tough question to answer without the proper expertise.  Luckily, we are experts in this matter, and we have solutions for either failure.

In our experience, control board failure causes E1 F2 and other keypad related fail symptoms less than 1% of the time.  But, it never hurts to inspect.

How do I inspect the control board, and how would I replace a keypad that’s no longer available?

The answer to control board and keypad failures

Send us the whole control assembly – panel/keypad and board.  ApplianceBoardRepair technicians can thoroughly diagnose the system.  If we determine that the board isn’t the root cause of failure, we can upgrade the control assembly with the BoardFruit LinkBox – which is available exclusively at ApplianceBoardRepair.

What is the BoardFruit LinkBox?

Well, you could check out the BoardFruit website to learn a little more, but here’s everything you need to know:

  • All keypad functions are exported from the panel to a 7″ touchscreen tablet
  • A small electronic module is installed on the backside of the panel that connects to the control board through a new ribbon cable in place of the old one
  • The original appearance of the panel’s front side is unaltered
  • The original keypad buttons will no longer function (but it sounds like they were dead already…)

  • The tablet operates the oven through a remote Bluetooth connection
  • The tablet comes with a cool charger and stand assembly that readily mounts over any standard outlet
  • It costs $300.00 and is backed by a one year warranty
  • For $380.00, we’ll refurbish the control board as well, which will also be guaranteed for a year (you should always choose this option)

Open fuse can “kill” Whirlpool and KitchenAid electric wall ovens. Easy to fix!

Dead Whirlpool/KitchenAid oven? Blank display, no beeping, nothing…

This happens too often, and it can be the result of one of a few different parts of the oven failing.  A frequent conclusion is that the control board is faulty, but there is often an open fuse in line with power to the control board, which can have the same effect.

The typical control board in question is shown below.

Whirlpool Control Board 4452242 – front

Whirlpool Control Board 4452242 – back

Whirlpool Thermal Fuse WP4451042

To check the fuse, cut power to the oven at the breaker and expose the control board behind the panel.  Refer to this post if you need help accessing the control board.

Use an ohmmeter to check for continuity through the fuse.  If you don’t know how to do that, refer to this instructional video from RepairClinic.

If the fuse is good, but the control board still won’t light up when power is applied to the oven, it needs to be repaired.

We fix these boards for $120.00 and they come backed by a one-year warranty.  Head to ApplianceBoardRepair.com, enter your information, and get a shipping label in less than five minutes!

‘PF’ Code on Whirlpool Oven Clock Displays: GBD, RBD and most other model series

Many ApplianceBoardRepair customers are observing code ‘PF’ on their Whirlpool Gold and RBD oven clock displays, usually along with the other symptoms covered in a previous discussion:

  • ‘E6 F2’ or ‘E5 F2’ ERROR CODE

  • RANDOM BEEPING

  • NO CLOCK DISPLAY

  • UNRESPONSIVE/DEAD OVEN

WHAT DOES ERROR CODE ‘PF’ MEAN?

Actually, the ‘PF’ isn’t really an error code.  In fact, it is a good indicator that the oven control board isn’t shot, and may not have any problems at all.

‘PF’ means Power Failure

The control board displays this whenever it recovers from a momentary power loss.

Now, that in itself means there could be a problem.  Momentary power losses can occur from many things including, but not limited to:

  • Lightning strike

  • Power spike

  • Power outage (…duh)

  • Faulty oven control transformer

  • Faulty oven control board (typical part numbers: 8302967, 8302319, 8303883, 8303884)

Your breaker box at home will generally do a pretty good job of protecting your oven against the first three, and ApplianceBoardRepair will get you back up and running if it’s either of the last two.

So if you see ‘PF’, don’t worry – we got your back.  Send us an inquiry on our website or to info@applianceboardrepair.com if you’re ever concerned or need help figuring out the next step.
